Fokis Mining Park

What is Focis Mining Park

Unique in its kind, “Vagonetto” – Fokis Mining park is the first Greek thematic park in Fokida (Central Greece) that gives visitors the opportunity to discover and explore the process of bauxite mining.

Pioneers of this idea were the very same mine workers who wished to preserve and display the memories of this place – inseparably connected with the bauxite mining process.

Vagonetto’s aim is not only to present the operating areas of a mine but also to inform, entertain and educate the new generations about the history of mining and the people working for that.

Its construction started in 1998 and it has been operating since September 2003. The introduction of bauxite’s mining history begins in the old Μine, tunnel 850, continues with a tour in the Mining History Exhibition Area and ends with a visit at the Interactive Digital Technology Wing.

Visiting vagonetto offers a many-sided hands-on edutainment

to children, youngsters, families and adults and it forms a lively workshop in the heart of a land filled with ancient monuments, museums and historical places. At the dawn of the new era, Vagonetto-Phokis Mining Park makes a difference in the Hellenic land, not only as an old mine and important source of human workforce, but also as a concrete part of our history, leaving an essential mark in our cultural identity.
